Roomrama is the de facto national anthem of the Assyrian people. It was composed by Nebu Juel Issabey and written by Yosip Bet Yosip for the Assyrian Universal Alliance and the Assyrian independence movement.

The original lyrics to Roomrama were written by Yosip Bet Yosip, an Assyrian poet and singer originally from Urmia, Iran. In 1968, the Assyrian Universal Alliance were seeking new symbols to represent the Assyrian people worldwide, including a national anthem. Taking inspiration from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Yosip wrote the lyrics in commemoration of Mesopotamia as well as to encourage unity.

The musical composition of Roomrama was made in part by Nebu Juel Issabey, an Assyrian musician originally from Tabriz. Issabey was previously a popular musician in his native country and led the Nineveh Choir both there and in the United States (of which Yosip was also a member of). He collaborated with Yosip and composed Roomrama in hopes of unifying Assyrians and its international recognition as an anthem.

Flag Anthem - Lyrics & Music composed in 1996 in Linköping by Dr. Zack Cherry, an Assyriologist, to honor the Assyrian national flag

Vocals: Ogin Bet Samo

Flag of the Assyrians

Flutter as you have always done, O, the flag of the Assyrians

Flutter, O, highly honored, and accept your sons' salute

Your sons have taken an oath, even to martyrdom under your mast

From hand to hand, we hold you until we bring you freedom

Your sons have taken an oath, even to martyrdom under your mast

From hand to hand, we hold you until we bring you freedom

Your sons have taken an oath, even to martyrdom under your mast

From hand to hand, we hold you until we bring you freedom

Fly high with your wings over the land of our ancestors

Every inch of soil and water will return to its original owners

Your star will shine, shine with its glory like in the past

By the will of your loving children and God's help

We made a promise written with our blood

To struggle to get our freedom until no power is able to stop us

Until a new day rises when every town and village is liberated

So we may live freely on our land under the Assyrian flag

A translation based on a Swedish translation by Augin Kurt Haninke:

The sun rises

The sun rises over my dear homeland

What if on the wings of the air

A message of joy for me brings

My homeland!

I pray to you with all my heart,

I, son of the Syriac, the Aramean, the Assyrian

The morning star rises over my dear homeland

High in the sky it shines

The dense darkness is dispersed

My homeland!

I pray to you with all my heart,

I, son of the Syriac, the Aramean, the Assyrian
